Your 15-minute wireless privacy reset.

Reduce unnecessary exposure without pretending one setting—or one product—makes you anonymous. Work through each radio, app, network, accessory, and account layer.

01

Update everything

Install current operating-system and firmware updates on phones, tablets, watches, earbuds, trackers, laptops, vehicles, and routers. Address randomization and background-radio protections have improved over multiple releases.

02

Keep private Wi-Fi addresses on

Inspect each saved network for Private Wi-Fi Address, Randomized MAC, or a similar control. Leave it enabled unless a specific compatibility problem requires a narrow exception.

03

Review app permissions

Remove precise location, background location, Bluetooth, Nearby Devices, and local-network access from apps that do not need them. Recheck after major app or operating-system updates.

04

Clean saved networks

Forget hotels, stores, conferences, rental properties, and other networks you no longer need. Avoid automatic joins and read captive-portal terms before entering an email, phone number, or loyalty account.

05

Inventory accessories

Your phone is only one radio. List the watch, earbuds, car, laptop, tags, medical or fitness devices, and smart accessories you carry. Update them and disable discovery or sharing modes you do not use.

06

Use real radio-off controls

If you need Bluetooth or Wi-Fi fully disabled, use the operating system’s settings and verify platform behavior. Quick controls may disconnect temporarily while preserving platform services.

07

Separate observation layers

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi choices do not erase cameras, cellular records, payment histories, vehicle sightings, app accounts, or building-access logs. Address the layer that matches your concern.

08

Ask better questions

For venues and apps, ask what is collected, what is inferred, what creates an identity link, how long raw records remain, who receives them, and how to opt out or delete them.

09

Test claims carefully

Demand current devices, ground truth, negative controls, missed-detection results, false-alert rates, raw-data fields, and limitations. A visual demonstration is not a controlled validation study.

10

Add tools last

After platform settings and permissions, consider whether an additional decoy or detection layer fits your actual threat model. Reject products that promise anonymity or protection from unrelated sensors.
